Eco-Ess is a distributor of semi-solid-state batteries, a cutting-edge technology that offers a blend of safety and efficiency. In today’s market, battery technology is segmented into three distinct categories: liquid-state, semi-solid-state, and all-solid-state batteries, each distinguished by the composition and state of the electrolyte they employ. Solid-state batteries represent the future of battery technology, leveraging a solid electrolyte without any liquid components, ensuring enhanced safety and energy density. Our semi-solid-state batteries integrate the strengths of both solid and liquid electrolytes, striking a balance between safety and performance to deliver optimized battery solutions. There are 5 patents covering various aspects of the battery design from composite positive electrode material to charging protection methods.

Solid electrolytes play a critical role in the design and functionality of solid and semi-solid-state batteries. They are categorized into inorganic oxide, sulfide, and organic polymer types, with each catering to the specific requirements of high-performance battery systems. Our batteries’ technology adopts advanced inorganic/organic composite electrolytes (CPEs) that combine the benefits of inorganic ceramic and organic polymer electrolytes. This innovation results in enhanced ion conduction rates, improved mechanical properties, and robust compatibility, addressing the limitations of individual electrolyte components. By integrating the composite electrolyte layer with the battery electrode, these batteries ensure optimal binding, reduced impedance, and increased high-temperature durability, leading to superior battery performance and longevity in varied applications.

The integration of inorganic ceramic and organic polymer materials in semi-solid-state batteries offered by Eco-Ess represents a breakthrough in electrolyte technology. This approach involves creating a strong interface between the electrolyte and electrode, enhancing ion conduction efficiency while maintaining structural integrity and thermal stability. The methology used enables the production of solid composite electrolytes that offer superior performance characteristics compared to traditional battery technologies. By focusing on innovation and quality of the products we bring to the market, our company continues to drive advancements in solid-state battery technology, offering customers reliable and sustainable energy storage solutions for the future.

Enhanced Safety with semi solid state Technology

Discover the superior safety features of semi solid state lithium-ion batteries demonstrated in our 300°C Arc testing. The graph illustrates a significant difference in thermal performance between semi solid state and traditional liquid lithium-ion batteries. Semi solid state batteries showcase a dramatically lower maximum temperature rise rate of just 0.235 °C/S, compared to 2.129 °C/S for liquid lithium-ion variants. This slower heat build-up effectively prevents the conditions that lead to thermal runaway, a critical safety hazard in conventional batteries which can reach a dangerous 471.4°C. By integrating semi solid state technology, we are setting new standards for battery safety, ensuring that our batteries are not only efficient but exceptionally secure and stable under extreme conditions.

What are Semi Solid State Batteries?

Semi solid state batteries represent a significant technological evolution in the realm of battery technology, bridging the gap between traditional liquid lithium-ion batteries and solid-state batteries. They are designed to offer the best of both worlds, combining the safety and performance benefits of solid-state batteries with the manufacturability and cost-effectiveness of liquid systems.

Structure and Composition
Positive electrode material: Composed of oxide materials co-doped with lithium ions, such as lithium iron phosphate, etc. This material has high energy density and thermal stability.

Electrolyte:
It uses a semi-solid-state electrolyte with less than 10% infiltrating liquid in the electrolyte, replacing traditional liquid electrolytes. This electrolyte has high ion conductivity and mechanical stability, effectively reducing safety hazards.

Negative electrode material:
Composed of lithium metal or carbon-based materials for storing lithium ions.

Advantages Over Traditional Batteries
Enhanced Safety:
The semi-solid nature of the electrolyte reduces the risk of leakage and flammability, common issues with traditional lithium-ion batteries that use liquid electrolytes. This stability helps prevent thermal runaway, a dangerous condition leading to overheating and potential fires.

Higher Energy Density:
By utilising dense electrode materials and eliminating excess liquid, semi solid state batteries can achieve higher energy densities. This means they can store more energy per unit weight and volume, enhancing the efficiency of devices and systems they power.

Improved Longevity and Durability:
The solid components of the electrolyte are less prone to degradation over time compared to their liquid counterparts, which helps these batteries maintain performance over many more charging cycles.

Operational Flexibility:
These batteries can operate effectively across a broader range of temperatures and conditions, making them suitable for use in more demanding applications, including electric vehicles and renewable energy storage systems.

Applications
Semi solid state batteries are particularly advantageous in applications where safety, energy density, and longevity are critical. They are increasingly being considered for electric vehicles, portable electronic devices, and large-scale energy storage solutions linked to renewable energy sources such as solar and wind.
