Products
Our range includes external battery and inverter enclosures, Universal Gateway and power-cut protection solutions, renewable distribution boards, pre-wired DC isolators and other electrical infrastructure for renewable energy installations. We also provide solutions specifically designed to support plug-in solar installations.
An external enclosure provides a secure, purpose-designed environment for battery and inverter equipment outside the home. Eco-ESS enclosures provide weather protection, secure lockable access and thermostatically controlled heating, cooling and ventilation, while supporting PAS 63100-aligned installations.
The Eco-ESS Universal Gateway is designed as part of a backup-power solution that manages the transition between the grid and an alternative energy supply when grid power is lost. A correctly designed backup system can allow selected or whole-home loads to continue operating during a power cut rather than automatically losing power with the grid.
It is a dedicated electrical protection board for plug-in solar installations. It incorporates a 16A Type A bidirectional RCBO and AC surge protection. It provides an option where an existing electrical installation requires dedicated protection for plug-in solar rather than unnecessarily replacing the entire consumer unit. Installation must be carried out by a competent person in accordance with BS 7671.
Potentially, yes. Whether your existing battery can support whole-house backup depends on the battery and inverter system, its available output, your property’s electrical installation and the loads you want to operate during a power cut. Eco-ESS can assess an existing system and advise on whether a backup solution such as an Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) can be integrated.
EPS (Emergency Power Supply) typically provides backup power to a dedicated circuit or selected essential loads when the grid fails. Whole-home backup is designed to transfer a larger part — or potentially all — of the home’s electrical installation onto the available backup supply. The amount of the property that can actually be powered depends on the battery, inverter capacity, system design and electrical demand.
Installation
In most cases, yes. If your existing equipment is suitable, an installer will be able to relocate your battery and inverter into a purpose-designed external enclosure rather than replacing the complete system. Eco-ESS can assess the existing equipment, available space, cable routes and manufacturer requirements before recommending the appropriate solution.
In most cases yes, Eco-ESS enclosures are designed for a range of modern battery and inverter systems. Compatibility should always be checked for the specific equipment being installed. Eco-ESS has received written compatibility or approval confirmation for its external enclosures from manufacturers including GoodWe, SolaX, Solis, Fox ESS, Sunsynk and Duracell.
No. Eco-ESS can provide an experienced installer to carry out the work for you. From assessing your existing system through to installation and commissioning, we can help manage the process and ensure your Eco-ESS solution is installed safely and correctly.
Battery location needs to be assessed carefully against current guidance, the battery manufacturer’s instructions and the individual property. Under PAS 63100, certain locations including loft spaces may not be suitable for domestic battery installations. Garages may be suitable in some circumstances, but factors such as fire safety, access, temperature, ventilation, impact protection and proximity to escape routes need to be considered. Where an internal location isn’t suitable, an external purpose-built enclosure can provide an alternative solution.
In many cases, yes. Eco-ESS provides a complete battery relocation service, including assessment of your existing system, supply of a suitable external enclosure and professional relocation of the battery, inverter and associated equipment. This can help free up space inside the home while providing a secure, weather-protected location for your equipment.
Not necessarily, but this depends on the battery manufacturer and the conditions of its warranty. The new location, enclosure and installation must meet the manufacturer’s requirements. Eco-ESS has received written compatibility or approval confirmation for its external enclosures from a number of manufacturers, including GoodWe, SolaX, Solis, Fox ESS, Sunsynk and Duracell. We recommend checking the requirements for your specific equipment before relocation.
Yes, where the equipment and system design are suitable. Eco-ESS external enclosures are specifically designed to house modern battery and inverter equipment, with different enclosure options available depending on the system being installed. Compatibility and space requirements should always be checked for the specific battery and inverter combination.
Compliance & Safety
PAS 63100 is a UK code of practice covering the safe installation of domestic battery energy storage systems. It considers areas including battery location, ventilation, fault management and fire-safety measures, helping installers assess how battery systems should be safely integrated into homes.
Not automatically. BS 7671 is not generally retrospective, so an installation correctly designed and installed to the requirements applicable at the time does not automatically become non-compliant because regulations change. However, additions or alterations may need to meet the requirements applicable to that new work.
PAS 63100 applies to the overall installation rather than being a product certification for an enclosure. Eco-ESS external battery and inverter enclosures are designed to support PAS 63100-aligned installations, but final compliance depends on the complete system design, equipment, location and installation.
Domestic battery installations are covered by several requirements and guidance documents, including BS 7671 and PAS 63100. PAS 63100 specifically addresses the safe installation of domestic battery energy storage systems and considers factors such as location, fire safety, ventilation, access and protection from mechanical damage. From Amendment 4 of BS 7671, stationary batteries in dwellings are required to be installed in accordance with PAS 63100.
BS 7671:2018+A4:2026 was published on 15 April 2026 with a six-month transition period. From 15 October 2026, the previous Brown Book version is withdrawn and Amendment 4 becomes the version installers must use for new electrical installation work. One of its major changes is a new chapter covering stationary secondary batteries, including requirements around system design, battery location, ventilation, fire-risk mitigation, bidirectional energy flow and protective devices. Existing installations do not automatically become non-compliant simply because the standard has changed.
Battery performance can be affected by temperature, which is why simply placing equipment outdoors isn’t always appropriate. Eco-ESS external enclosures are designed for permanent UK outdoor installation and incorporate thermostatically controlled heating, cooling and ventilation to help maintain a more suitable environment for the equipment throughout changing weather conditions. The operating temperature requirements of the specific battery manufacturer must still be followed.
A correctly specified enclosure needs to manage the heat produced by the equipment inside it. Eco-ESS enclosures incorporate thermostatically controlled ventilation and cooling to reduce internal heat build-up and support stable operation. The enclosure, inverter and overall installation still need to be correctly specified for the equipment being housed.

Technical Support
Compatibility depends on your specific battery and inverter models, their dimensions, installation requirements and the overall system design. Send the details of your equipment to Eco-ESS and our team can help identify the appropriate enclosure.
Eco-ESS has received written compatibility or approval confirmation for its external battery and inverter enclosures from GoodWe, SolaX, Solis, Fox ESS, Sunsynk and Duracell. Approval should still be considered alongside the requirements of the particular equipment and installation.
Yes. Technical information is available across the Eco-ESS product range, including specification sheets and installation guidance, with additional engineering information available for certain products on request.
Yes. Eco-ESS supports installers with technical resources, system setup guidance and product support. Approved Eco-ESS installers can also access benefits including CPD-accredited training, trade access and priority technical support.
Ordinarily, an Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) is designed to manage the transfer between different power sources and does not necessarily provide protection against abnormal grid voltage. However, the Eco-ESS Automatic Transfer Switch incorporates voltage monitoring, allowing it to detect when grid voltage moves outside the optimum operating range. When this happens, the system can provide protective switching, helping protect the installation while managing the transition between the grid and available backup power. This gives the Eco-ESS solution an additional layer of protection beyond the basic switching functionality of a standard ATS.
